And More Wall Art

I seem to have a theme going here. This stunning 9' x 6.5' painting entitled "Willamette Valley View" by April Waters adorns a wall in the C.O.M. building at the Salem Hospital complex, where we spent a few hours of New Years Eve. It gets worse--we rang in the new year in the ER! My husband this time. Thankfully he is doing well.

Labor y Libertad

This interesting mural entitled Labor and Freedom was painted by Hector H. Hernandez at Colonia Libertad Farm Worker Housing Development on Lancaster Drive SE and Kuebler Blvd.

Scenes of Salem

Another mural, this one showing scenes of Salem and surrounding areas. Clockwise from upper left - the State Capitol and Charles Sprague Fountain; rolling countryside and Christmas tree farm; South Falls at Silvercreek State Park; Riverside Park; and in the center, official state symbols-the Western Meadowlark and the Oregon Grape.

This mural is just inside the Lancaster Drive entrance to Lancaster Mall.

Elevator Art

These paintings liven up the elevator doors inside the Reed Opera House, depicted in the painting (the red brick building) in Salem's downtown historic district. The building in the painting on the left is of the Capitol Center.

Sketch of CNB Building

This mini-mural drawing adorns a wall on the lower level of the historic Reed Opera House. It is of the historic 1880 Capital National Bank Building which I posted previously. The interesting thing is that is shows the original street-level front which unfortunately was 'modernized'. Some interesting history of the building is provided by the Salem Public Library.

It pays to look back sometimes

This mural depicting a Pacific Northwest scene is on the south side of a store on Commercial St. between Court and State Sts. Commercial is a one-way street going south which probably explains why I never noticed it before. The 'rock' underneath the boy bares the signature of muralist Abram Heard, dated 1998. It's in fairly good shape after 10 years in direct sun. (The white squares are signs which state who may park in the adjacent lot.)

A slight detour (2K miles) from Salem, Oregon, this mural of Civil War General William T. Sherman is in the town where both of us were born -- Lancaster, Ohio.

He was a hero to the North, and considered "the most hated and despised man in the history of Georgia".

This Vaudeville-style mural was painted in 1984 on the back or east exterior wall of the historic Elsinore Theatre by the late Professor James Mattingly. The subjects of the 4-story mural are Theda Bara (Cleopatra), Charlie Chaplin, Marlene Dietrich and W. C. Fields. Thanks to the parking lot at the corner of Church and Ferry Streets, the mural is visible from the street.
