This nest was too high for me to see inside. Not sure what bird builds this shape of nest. Abe probably knows. And it was in the Walmart parking lot.

Feather Friends
When you get low on photos, it's always nice to have some feather friends around. If this is a chickadee, it's the chubbiest I've ever seen. [Edit--Thanks to Pelican for letting me know this is a Dark-Eyed Junco.] This was during our white Christmas, outside my computer corner window. That's an aromatic red cedar tree we planted in 1978. (It survived the ice storm.)

Looking for Food
During our recent snow, I did my best to keep food out for the birds. I was told this is a Spotted Towhee, though most websites say it doesn't live here.

Keeping Warm
Today was enough above freezing that most of our snow melted. I have a bird feeder right outside my computer window and my sweet husband was kind enough to wipe down the outside so I could photo the birds as they came and went. I did not realize how difficult it is to photograph birds. They were in constant motion, twitching and turning. Just as I focused and pressed the shutter, off they would go. After trying every setting on my camera and about a hundred shots, I finally got one that was more than just a blur.

Territorial Dilemma
This woodpecker was very frustrated that he couldn't seem to run off his competitor and claim this as his territory. After a few noisy days at my kitchen window, he finally gave up.
