Tree Sitting

This is Jasmine Zimmer-Stucky. She is about 50 feet above the Capitol grounds in a tall pine. A member of the Eugene chapter of environmental group Rising Tide, she is protesting the Western Oregon Plan Revisions which would increase logging on federal Bureau of Land Management land in Oregon and hopes to sway the governor's decision. The logging plan has been presented to Gov. Kulongoski and it is being reviewed.

I'm glad to see last night's wind didn't blow her out of that tree.

Great photo of an admirable person who fights for what she believes in. Good reminder for us all.

Good work she's doing! We really should be preserving more of nature, not chopping it down.

Will the logging plans be put on hold now the government's about to change?

Oh good for Jasmine!

I do hope they change that decision. The world has too few forests as it is. =(

gogouci -- indeed! And she ended up with a couple of nice sunny days.

angela -- this is a difficult issue that is wrestled with. There are strong opinions on both sides so it will be interesting to see how this plays out.
